I resisted every effort to continue seeking for support for the mental health condition that destroyed my life. I became an experimental subject for traditional healers, faith based healers and some doctors until we were introduced eventually to Total Wellness and Recovery Consult by the last Pastor who saw us and my life was transformed.

Call me Jane. I am a lady of 25 years of age and I have been living with schizophrenia for over 10 years. My first episode happened when I was at SHS and at the time my parents were called to come for me. They took me straight to the church where I was prayed for and the symptoms left me. I returned to school and after some months when we were about writing our final examinations, the situation repeated itself. Believing it was a demonic attack, I was sent to various prayer homes and eventually to some shrines and I was given all kinds of concoctions to drink, sniff, bath and even smoke; all these to no avail.

I was eventually sent to the psychiatric hospital where I was first diagnosed with schizophrenia. I was on admission for a month and eventually absconded from the place because the living condition in the facility was very bad. Though I was a lot more better, I also refused taking my medications because of the side effects I experience when I take them.

With the third episode, I was taken to a private mental health facility in where I was given so many medications that nearly killed me. I became, dull, was drooling, stiff, and everything discomforting was my experience at the time. Finally I was taken to a pastor whom after praying for me asked my parents to send me to Total Wellness and Recovery Consult. I resisted because I was tired of the medications and everything.

At TWRC, Mr. Love the therapist who saw me was very nice and warm. He was a great listener and very patient with me though I was radical with all my symptoms. He called in his team of experts and discussed my case with my family. They put together a support team for me and planned how I was going to receive care from that time. They would call me to find out how I was doing when I went home. They changed all my medication and placed me on only I medication and I was encouraged to come for therapies once a week. Through this comprehensive care, I started regaining my confidence and my self-worth. My family became hopeful in me. though the journey to recovery was taught, the TWRC team was with me throughout. Its been 5 years since I met TWRC, I have never been hospitalized again nor had relapsed to the point of hopelessness.
